The presentation of the ‘Children are painting the world. Kazakhstan-Almaty’ album dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the city of Almaty, the celebration of which was included in the list of UNESCO’s memorable and anniversary dates, was held on 29 October, 2016 at the ‘ART master’ gallery in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It should be noted that the album had previously been presented to the public at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris when Kazakhstan was celebrating the 1000th anniversary of Almaty. The exposition bringing together the best works of the project was visited by the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO Gettachyu Engida and the Mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek.The event was organized by the ‘Children are painting the world’ Public Foundation with the support of the Almaty city Administration, National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO, Kazakhstan National Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the UNESCO Observatory for intercultural and arts education in Central Asia and financially supported by the “London-Almaty Insurance Company” JSC.
Since the beginning of the UNESCO world album series “The children of the world are painting” in Kazakhstan in 1999, this annual publication has overgrown to a movement that has not only found its place, but also united different organizations and groups of artists, bringing into life UNESCO’s values through children’s creativity and artistic expression.
Every autumn finalists come from all over Kazakhstan to Almaty to attend the presentation of the album and the award ceremony. The exhibition of the best works of the ‘Children are painting the world. Kazakhstan-Almaty’ project took place during the presentation.
After 17 years, the album of Kazakhstan expanded the initial project scope, and now, in addition to children's drawings it reflects almost all kinds of children's art, such as sculpture, decorative arts and the Kazakh national applied arts.
In September 2016, Moscow hosted “The Art of the Book” International Competition among the CIS member states, where out of 58 publications the “Children are painting the world. Kazakhstan” album won the nomination “The book for children and youth”.
Continued publication of the album “The Children are Painting the World, Kazakhstan” confirms the commitment of Kazakhstan to the Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures, declared by the United Nations on the initiative of Kazakhstan for 2013-2022 and promotes a culture of tolerance, creativity and diversity.
