International Conference Reflects on “The First Great Migrations of Peoples”

18 June 2008

Scientists from various fields are gathering at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, 17-19 June to debate the origins of humanity, taking a close look at migratory flows that dispersed human beings around the world.

Anthropologists working closely with geneticists and archeologists have concluded that humans first appeared in Africa and then migrated to all parts of the planet.

This international conference will provide the opportunity to look at these early migrations. Questions regarding the origins of various linguistic families and their evolution will also be discussed.

The conference is organized by the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO, the French National Museum of Natural History, the French National Institute for Eastern Languages and Civilizations, under the auspices of the Social and Human Sciences Sector of UNESCO.
