International Festival "Children are painting the world. Asia"

The International Festival under the auspices of UNESCO "Children are painting the world. Asia", dedicated in 2016 to the 1000th anniversary of Almaty City, started in Kazakhstan. This project was initiated in 1999, when UNESCO appealed to member states to release the album "Children are painting the World." In 2010, the project expanded to the sub-regional level in the format of Central Asian art forum for young artists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

In 2016, the competition has enlarged its geographical scope to the Asia-Pacific region. Any child aged 3-17 years can join this initiative as participant. It is expected that this project will cover more than 7,000 participants and in September 2016 the cultural capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty city will welcome more than 200 winners of the Festival from Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, China, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Japan and others.

The main goal of the project is the promotion of the main UNESCO ideals in the field of intercultural dialogue and understanding, support and development of talented youth, strengthening and extension of cultural ties between young generations of the region.

In the framework of the programme participants will take part in the interactive trainings and workshops on culture of peace and tolerance, global citizenship education, and masters in the sphere of fine arts will share their knowledge. Also special attention is given to the issue and the presentation of a special album of children's art "Children are painting the world. Asia", dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of Almaty city which was included in the list of commemorative dates of UNESCO.

Event is organized by the Kazakhstan National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and supported by the UNESCO Almaty Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ISESCO, Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation and the City Administration of Almaty.
