The Olympics Starts With Childhood

9 July 2020

UNESCO Almaty and the NOC RK marked the International Olympic Day 2020 together with special children.

During three days, little participants from different regions of Kazakhstan met with the best athletes of the country through an online format to receive a portion of positive emotions and motivation to overcome life's difficulties associated with their health.

The Olympic swimming champion, who created a sensation for his country at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Dmitry Balandin told the children about his childhood, the difficulties on the way to success and the most important moment of his victory at the Olympics. The children were interested to know how many minutes under water Dmitry is able to hold out holding his breath, what is his favorite dish and his dreams. Dmitry told the children that it was the Olympic values, such as solidarity, respect and friendship, that helped him achieve major successes in life and advised the children to use their strength to overcome difficulties in their lives.

Vasily Levit, Silver medalist of the Olympic boxing games, an experienced member of the national team motivated children not to stop on their achievements and enrich their life path with new victories. Vasily answered many questions from children and said that boxers may also be afraid of dentists, but it is necessary to visit them regularly. He also said that he does not believe in superstitions and confidently enters the ring for a duel with an opponent. In response to some questions, he promised the children to think about creating a family and the possibility of opening boxing schools in the regions of the country once he ends his career.

The best freestyle acrobatics athlete of Kazakhstan, winner of the World Cup and Universiade, Zhanbota Aldabergenova and champion of the 2016 Paralympic Games in swimming Zulfiya Gabidullina told the participants about their childhood, dreams and plans for the future. A little participant named Alikhan recorded a memorable confession to Zhanbota, which did not leave the athlete indifferent.

All participants of the meetings received commemorative diplomas and souvenirs from the organizers, and most importantly, they received the energy boost necessary to improve their emotional state during the COVID-19 crisis.
